How gambling works in BC
British Columbia allows gambling only when the provincial government runs it. BCLC, a Crown corporation, runs all commercial gambling in the province. That includes online gambling, which BCLC offers through PlayNow.com. Its voluntary self-exclusion program has operated under the Gaming Control Act.
Since April 13, 2026, the provincial regulator has been the Independent Gambling Control Office, or IGCO. On that date it replaced the previous branch. The minimum gambling age is 19, for casinos and for online play alike. Minors may not be present in a casino or a bingo facility anywhere in BC. Entry at Cascades Casino Langley requires valid government-issued photo ID.
Other online sites
On August 28, 2026, IGCO stated that PlayNow.com is the only regulated commercial online gambling site permitted to operate in BC. It added that other online gambling sites accepting BC players operate illegally in BC. The province has not announced a licensed private online market.
For people in Langley, the legal options include land-based venues such as Cascades Casino Langley, and PlayNow.com online. The age limit of 19 applies to both. Details on the regulator are at igcobc.ca.
Self-exclusion and help
BCLC's GameBreak self-exclusion program covers casinos and community gaming centres. It also excludes a person from PlayNow.com for the same period. Terms are 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years. Once chosen, the term cannot be changed.
Gambling Support BC offers free help 24/7 at 1-888-795-6111. Any BC resident can call, including people affected by someone else's gambling. Inside every casino in BC, a GameSense Advisor is available. More information is at gamblingsupportbc.ca.
Paid links on this site
This site is an independent guide: it is not a casino, takes no bets and has no accounts. Its home page carries paid links marked Ad, in the menu, below the first screen and near the end, all to the same private online casino site. That site is not PlayNow and is not run or licensed by the province. The guide earns a commission, and the partner can change. This page has no paid links.
